Interior and sound proofing

Installed sound proofing, carpet, and started center console.

Disc brakes, gas gauge, drive home.

Installed Disc Brake conversion kit. Converted fuel sending unit from 67 - 72 chevy c10 to work on my 61 with a mercedes fuel guage. Had to reverse the sender. so that it would show fuel show full when full not the opposite. Drove it home from dad's for the first time.

Fore score and 3 days later we have the Dash gauges figured out. Gas guage reads backwards. So if it says 3/4 its really 1/4. 

Power seats out of a tahoe. cab gets really small with seats.

Veg 2.0 Lives!!! Muwahahaha!!!!!

We got the engine running today. First start and run was on diesel. trouble is stopping it. The diesel doesn't work like a gas engine. No spark plugs So even if you kill the power going to the engine it will run until it is out of fuel.  The Mercedes 300sd uses vacuum to shut off the engine. When you turn the key off it opens a valve and the vacuum shuts of fuel to the engine.

Gas tank cover/box

Finished the tank cover and box. Also installed new oil lines and Crankshaft Position Sensor.

First off, I would like to thank all the lacq bugs who died so that I might preserve the wood for the bed of my truck. dear lac bugs your sacrifice is appreciated.
  
Installed bed and strips

Heavily modified truck box /  fuel tank cover. Note tools of trade below. AKA sledge-o-matic. It looks like I will have a total of 45 inches of bed space. Wohoo almost 4 feet of bed! I could carry a laptop, some tools, a gallon of water, and maybe even some groceries. LOL

New bed wood

Got wood for the bed. Using 3/4" oak plywood. had to cut the steel strips to fit the custom bed length. I got lucky and 2 holes lined up in each strip. Also lucky to have extra strips. For some reason after 50+ years the strips were rusted I broke a few of the bolts but able to save quite a few.

Also installed clear brake and turn signal assemblies. I'm using red bulbs for the brakes and amber for turns signals. 

Painted grill

Sanded primed and painted grill and "eye brows". Painted them charcoal gray. I'm considering doing the body line and center of the hood the same as this truck: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2059881350102946440vbSOBI 

30 gallon tank installed. Note cool red fuel tank nozzle. Hooked up fuel lines and pump. Note cool clear blue lines. Installed transmission cover. We had to "Adjust" it to fit the Mercedes transmission.  

Front Clip, Veggie heat exchanger installed. Installed radiator and A/C condenser.    Also welded up drive line.

Driveshaft Bearing.

given the design of the 300sd drive shaft we couldn't use the existing bearing. It wouldn't allow for drive shaft to expand and contract with movement of 61' Chevy swing arms. Found a Kenworth bearing big enough to go around drive line. Think a big rig bearing it will hold up to massive 100hp 300sd power?

Fabricated new drive line with front u-joint  from ~75 Dodge 4x4.

engine pulling

Pulled the engine etc from veg 1.0 mounted it in veg2.0. Custom mounts for engine and trans mission.

Veg 1.0 is dead. Alas I new her well! LOL.

New instrument cluster

Installed console from a 80s Mercedes SEL. Added aftermarket Lights. 

interior painting, windows, gaskets, etc

Last weekend primed and  painted interior. This weekend  replaced the windshield and gaskets, felts. etc for all the windows. two thumbs up from the niece. :)
